Shockwave Therapy Gets Your Horse Back on Track

Equine Shockwave TherapyShockwave therapy constitutes a new modality for dealing with refractory conditions, by stimulating the animals natural repair mechanisms.

Shockwaves Trigger Natural Repair in the Body

Shockwaves are high-energy sound waves, which are transmitted to the affected body part. There, they trigger the body's natural repair mechanisms by stimulating immune-competent cells. Thus, a lasting healing response is achieved without any side-effects. In human medicine, shockwave therapy has been used for over 25 years to treat a number of urologic and orthopedic conditions.

Equine Outpatient Shockwave TherapyShockwave Treatment is an Outpatient Service

After diagnosis, our veterinarian will determine whether the condition is suitable for shockwave treatment. Shockwave treatment is usually done on an outpatient basis here at the clinic. The horse only requires a mild sedation, so it remains standing throughout the procedure. Treatment usually takes 10-20 minutes. The details of the subsequent resting and follow-up requirements should be discussed with the veterinarian. Usually, the horse can leave within 1-2 hours
