Lisa Borzynski, DVM
Background: I grew up on a vegetable farm in Racine, Wisconsin. My life of horses began when I was 3 years old. My aunt Elizabeth, who was not much older than I, kept her horse in our barn. She taught me to ride and led me in my first lead line class at age 4. I followed her through the ranks of Pony Club and 4-H, and even her first job as a veterinary technician in a large animal clinic. By the age of 12, I was set on being an equine veterinarian.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an Animal Science degree in 1988 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. During my college years, the best education came from five summers working and backpacking around the world. I worked on a jumper farm in Italy, on a reining and breeding Quarter Horse farm in Germany, on a dairy farm in Holland, at the veterinary school in South Africa and at an equine clinic in Australia.
I met my husband, Bill Cooper in 1990 at a joint vet school/med school Halloween party. After graduation, we moved to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, we moved to Minnesota in 1995. For the past 11 years, I have worked at Anoka Equine Veterinary Services. Bill and I had our first child, a daughter named Quinn, on September 11, 2003. Our road trips to visit families in Whitewater and Racine became so frequent that it was time to move back to the area.
Hobbies: In my “spare time”, I enjoy competing with my two Thoroughbreds in eventing (a horse triathlon of dressage, cross-country jumping, and stadium jumping). Bill and I also enjoy biking, skiing, scuba diving, and traveling.
Medical Interest: One of the things I like best about veterinary medicine is the variety of people and cases that I see on a daily basis. I enjoy all areas of veterinary medicine, particularly medicine, neonatal care, lameness, reproduction and nutrition.
